I have been doing a little research on the casualty list of the Jervis Bay.
One name puzzled me, as I could find no record of the seaman, under that name,
on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.
After a little further digging into the site, using a broader search, I
eventually found that John Sullivan, who was a greaser, is listed under his
true family name of Thomas Costello. It would appear that John Sullivan was an
alias.
Thomas Costello's details are as follows:
- Name: Thomas Costello
- Nationality: United Kingdom
- Rank: Greaser
- Regiment: Naval Auxiliary Personnel (M.N.)
- Age: 55
- Service No. 53311
- Served as John Sullivan, son of John & Catherine Costello
- Named on the Liverpool Naval Memorial Panel 14, Column 1
With very best regards
